WE ARE ROOTED IN FAITH

News and Notes 9-10-18

Picture Day is on Wednesday. Gym is also on Wednesday. All students should wear sneakers and white PE socks. Boys: wear PE shorts and maroon golf shirt. Bring T-shirt for PE. Girls: wear regular uniform (jumper and pink blouse) with PE shorts underneath. Bring T-shirt for PE. Girls who wear uniform shorts, may wear PE shorts with the pink blouse. Bring T-shirt to change into.

Spelling Words-has, had, as, at, and, man, ran, tan, bag, ask

Challenge Words-the, of, to. Dictation test on Friday. See note below.

Spelling and Reading assignments will come home on Tuesday, and are due back on Friday. There will be a spelling dictation test on Friday. All students are responsible for all 13 words. The challenge words are high-frequency sight words. Credit will be given for correct challenge words, but there will be no penalty for misspelled words. Spelling homework will be a Tic-Tac-Toe menu where your child chooses 3 activities weekly. Complete written Spelling work in blue duck copybook. Reading will be found in the blue reading folder that will be sent home on Tuesdays. Students are still being assessed for reading levels.

Religion Awards-Students may work toward a Religion Award. I will send home folders containing an explanation and activity choices. The folder should be completed and returned each month October-March in order to earn the Religion Award Medal.

Book Club Orders will come home by Wednesday. Orders are due by Sept. 21. Order online, or make checks payable to Scholastic.

Monday-

Religion-Parents, please help our child write an easy kid-friendly joke or riddle on the paper provided. We are sending jokes to Cameron Wakeley who is undergoing treatment.

Tuesday-Picture Day on Wednesday. Bring T-shirt for PE. See note above.

Reading-Read (with help as needed) pointing to the words in the Angel of God prayer, and the Pledge of Allegiance. Read daily Tuesday-Thursday.

First Grade Supply List 2018-2019

Please $10.00 in an envelope marked with your child’s name and the word Supplies. This will cover the cost of 2 printing copybooks, and a writing journal.

News and Notes 6-4-18

Summer Birthdays-Students with summer birthdays may bring a treat to share any day this week. It is a tradition to bring extra treats to share with the faculty. Students get to choose something from each faculty member’s birthday box.

Friday and next Monday are half-days, with dismissal at 12:00. Please send a note or email before Friday, if your child’s transportation will be with another family, or another new arrangement. Bring a snack on Friday and Monday.

Test Folders will come home for the last time this week. Keep all tests and folders at home. Final tests and assessments remain at school. You can find the scores for these on My Student’s Progress web site.

Thank you again for the generous help with preparations for First Friday Mass, and for help with the field trip. I am grateful as always.

Friday is Move-up Day. Our class will go to second grade for an hour to meet Mrs. Offner. Summer assignments will be given at this time.

First grade will read do the readings, and assist with the music, and other roles for First Friday Mass at 9:00.

Field Trip to DaVinci will be on Friday following First Friday Mass. Wear regular uniforms for Mass and trip. Bring lunch in a large, labeled zipper bag. No glass bottles. Bring spending money in an envelope marked with child’s name.

Religion Final Test will be given tomorrow. Math performance assessments have been finished. The class is still writing and editing Religion paragraphs.

Spelling Words: saw, law, straw, paw, raw, jaw, crawl, lawn, draw, drawn.

Challenge Words: awful, awesome, fawn, scrawl, dawn. Spelling tests and spelling homework are finished. We are still working on words for learning

practice.

Early Dismissal on Friday at 12:00.  Bring a snack.

Field Day-This Thursday wear gym clothes, with bathing suit underneath.

Wear sunblock, bring a towel, and a labeled water bottle. No homework for Thursday.

Final Tests and Performance Assessments-First grade has performance assessments in combined form for Religion, Language Arts, Listening and Speaking. Students are acting out the story of Jesus and Bartimaeus, the Blind Man. They are the writing a paragraph explaining how each can show love like Jesus. We have begun to act and draft. All work is done in school.

In Math students will complete a performance assessment using pattern blocks. In this shapes will drawn, corners will be counted and compared. All work is done in school. On May 30 students will have a Religion final. Review sheets were sent home last week. The test is based on the review given.

Thank you for all the wonderful support for swimming. This includes volunteers, visitors, and all parents who remembered swim bags for six weeks. Many thanks.

Field Trip Forms and Fees are due by Wednesday. Please let me know if another form is needed. Volunteers must have all required clearances.

Reading-We are reading about Washington D.C. and the work of the President. This goes with our current Social Studies topic.

Math Test for chapter 9 will be Tuesday. Homework for Monday will help to review for the test.

Reading-Due to the snow days last week we will begin a new book mid-week, and continue with the same book next week. I will not be sending home a new book this week. Please review Dolch Sight Word phrases 6, 7, and 8 with your child.

Report Cards/Test Folders-Please sign and return just the report card envelope. Keep old tests home, returning only 3rd trimester papers. Thank you.

Easter-Students will have a small Easter treat from me. We will not have an egg hunt or party. I am keeping it simple this year.

Dress Down Day is canceled for March.
