INTRODUCTION

Saint Isidore’s Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten Programs have been designed to help promote the spiritual, emotional, physical, intellectual and social growth of young children. In recognizing the crucial importance of the early years, our program strives to meet the developmental needs of your child. A hands on learning experience for three and four year olds is presented in a loving atmosphere to serve as a natural stepping stone between the home and the school.

    ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL

School hours are from 8:15am – 12:00pm for "Half Day" students and 8:15am-3:00pm for "Full Day" students. Please try to bring your child to school on time so that he/she is not made to feel uncomfortable arriving after the children have become involved in their morning routine. Preparation is a crucial part of the teacher and teacher assistant’s morning. Please do not bring your child to school any more than FIVE MINUTES before the start of the school day.

Transportation must be arranged by the parents. When arriving at school, please follow in the car rider line outside the school. The safety of your child and the other children are at stake. Your child will be greeted at your car by a teacher or teacher’s assistant and escorted into the school. It is in their best interest that "goodbyes" are not drawn out. Lots of "TLC" will be given to help your child through any separation anxiety they may be experiencing.

At the close of the school day, please be prompt in meeting with your child. All parents are to wait outside for their child. You may pull up in front of the school steps near the school’s glass porch. The teacher and/or teacher assistant will escort your child to your car. Please notify the teacher if anyone other than the child’s parent(s) will be transporting the child. The teacher and/or teacher assistant WILL NOT RELEASE A CHILD TO AN UNAUTHERIZED PERSON.

    OPEN HOUSE/ORIENTATION

There are two days designed for the parents and the children to visit the school. During this time, you can meet the staff and familiarize yourself with the school.

    SCHOOL CLOSINGS

Check your school calendar for days we are not in session. The Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten calendar rarely differs from K-8, but at times there may be a slight variation. If we decide to close due to snow, the Quakertown School District will announce the closing. If there is a delayed opening, the "Half Day" children will not have school.

    BIRTHDAYS

Celebrating a birthday in school is an important occasion for your child. It makes the school day very special. In the event that your child does not have a birthday during the school year, a special day will be set aside for him/her. Parents are invited to come and celebrate with their child. Please speak with your child’s teacher to arrange the day and special birthday treat.

    CURRICULUM

The curriculum is designed to meet the developmental needs of all young children. Personal, social development is the primary goal for children entering a Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten program. A calendar will be provided in the beginning of the year to indicate the specific times for these activities.

** This schedule is subject to change.

    TODAY WE…

There will be a "Today We ..." paper sent home daily. This will highlight a few of the developmental skills and activities that we worked on that specific day. It will also include important parent information. Use the "Today We …" paper, to spark conversation with your child about their day.

    SHOW AND SHARE

This is a time for each child to bring something special into school from home. The teacher strongly suggests that the children bring in something other than a toy. The children will love talking about pictures from a vacation, a special book that has been given to them, or even something that they have made. Please send in an item labeled with your child’s full name. Parents will be notified of show and tell dates. Please leave all other personal items at home other days.

    SHARING TIME

This is a time for each child to discuss something important to them. This exercise helps the children learn language skills, introduces awareness of varying family dynamics, and develops self-esteem. Sharing time will be scheduled at various times during the week.

    FIELD TRIPS

Pre-Kindergarten must have a permission slip signed by a parent or guardian for each field trip. This also includes any walking field trips. Without a permission slip in advance, your child may not attend the scheduled field trip. If there is a field trip scheduled for a day that your child does not come to school, we encourage you and your child to attend anyway.

    SNACKS

Snacks are provided by the parents. Please provide a nutritional snack and napkins on your child’s scheduled snack day. A snack calendar will be sent home monthly. If your child has any type of food allergy, please notify the teacher as soon as possible.

Milk or juice can be purchased by the trimester at $0.35 a day. If your child is absent during the month, just subtract the amount from the upcoming month. Parents that are providing their child’s drink, please send a juice box to help prevent spills.

    LUNCH

    (Full Day)

Lunch is provided by the parents.

    • Please send a dishtowel for your child to eat on.
    • Please remember that there is NOT a microwave available to heat your child’s lunch.
    • Please remember to pack two drinks for your child if you are not purchasing milk or juice for morning snack.

    PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES

Two specific times during the year (usually October and February) will be set aside for parents to come and discuss their child’s progress. However, if you wish to speak to the teacher at any other time, please do not hesitate to call or write a letter requesting a conference. Also, we will call you if we see any problems developing with your child.

    HEALTH AND SAFETY

    1. The safety of the children will always hold the utmost importance while they are in our care. Each child will be under the guidance of the teacher or teacher assistant at all times.
    2. The school will keep emergency phone numbers on file. Please keep the school informed if there are any changes in this information. In case of an emergency, a parent will be notified first. If neither parent can be reached, the teacher will contact the emergency number.
    3. If a child has a bathroom mishap, he/she will be changed at school by the teacher or teacher assistant. Please notify the school at once if you are not comfortable with this. Please send in to school a complete set of clothing for your child. Please do so in a plastic shoe box that is labeled with your child’s name (front and back). While occasional accidents are okay, your child must be fully potty trained.
    4. Please notify the school at once if there are any changes in your child’s medical history. Please call the school office to report your child absent. Please see attached Communicable Disease Chart and refer to it when your child has come down with an illness. If your child becomes ill with one of these diseases, please notify the school immediately.

    EQUIPMENT

Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten is a fun and most of the time MESSY experience. Children should come to school in play clothes so that they can join in all activities. We play and work much of our day on the floor. Please dress your child in clothes that are okay to get dirty. Also, please remember that overalls and belts can be difficult for young children to manipulate. Only send your child to school in this type of clothing if they can work their outfit independently.

SNEAKERS OR RUBBER SOLE SHOES ARE THE ONLY TYPE OF SHOES ALLOWED.

Attached is a list of supplies your child will need on the first day of school.
