Religion Test-By Wednesday I will send a review sheet for students to study about Advent and Christmas. Test will be given early next week.

Auction Basket-I will be boxing up our awesome Lego basket this week. Thank you for the varied and cool donations.

Reading-This week I am sending home a Math concept book and a leveled book for each group. Please read the book All About Coins with your child. The leveled book should be able to be read independently. We are reading about topics related to American symbols. This also coordinates with our current Social Studies topic.

Math Project-I will be sending home directions for students to choose a single math project to be completed at home. There is an easy project (a fact family poster) and a challenging project (math number line riddles.) I am giving almost a month for the project to be completed.

Writing-Help your child choose a season on the worksheet given. The help your child write nouns and verbs about the given season. This will made clear in the directions given for the worksheet. Return by Wednesday.

Class Trip to Bethlehem Catholic for the 1st grade Christmas party will be this Wednesday, December 12. We will leave promptly at 8:30. Be sure to be on time.

Please bring an unwrapped new toy for Catholic Charities, if able. Eat a big breakfast, as the snack provided is small.

Spelling List: when, what, why, which, where, who, check, champ, such, much.

Challenge Words: any, about, around. Dictation test on Friday. These are difficult words, so please help your child study daily.

Auction Basket-Thank you for the variety of Legos sent in for the auction basket.

It is going to be awesome!

Test Folders went home last week. Please return empty folders for the new trimester.

Christmas Concert is this evening. Meet in the classroom by 6:15. Wear dressy clothes with Christmas colors of red and green. Girls who are dancing are asked to wear blue or white.

Reading-Practice reading words with long o spelled in different ways. Complete worksheet with comparative endings -er and -est.

Monday-No homework due to the concert.

Tuesday-Bring a toy if you can for Catholic Charities. Wear regular uniform as there will be no gym class on Wednesday, due to the party.

First Friday Mas-will be held at 9:00. Parents are welcome to attend.

Saturday, December 8 is a holy day of obligation.

Test Folders for the 1st trimester will come home by Friday. Please empty the folder, keep tests at home, and return the empty folder.

Math Test-Chapter 3 test will be on Tuesday, December 4. Please finish/review pages 203-206 with your child in preparation for the test. Keep chapter 3 book at home.

Reading/Spelling/Language Arts-We are finishing last week’s book. So I am sending home only sight word and decoding homework. Spelling test results were

very mixed last week. We are reviewing the same words this week. I am not giving written work, but please help your child review unit 10 words.

First Grade Christmas Party at Bethlehem Catholic High School is next week on December 12. Students must be on time this day, or they will miss the bus. If possible students are asked to bring a new toy to donate to Catholic Charities. Please return permission slips this week.

Many thanks for the Legos donated for the auction basket. We are getting a nice collection together.

Advent-We are celebrating Advent in the classroom. I suggest using an Advent calendar with your child to help get ready for Jesus’ Birthday.

Reading-This week please review Dolch List 2-words, phrases, and sentences. I am sending home vowel-consonant-silent e words to practice.

Math Test on Thursday-Your child should know all the combinations to make a sum of 10. Here is the list: 10+0=10, 9+1=10, 8+2=10, 7+3=10, 6+4=10, 5+5=10, 0+10=10, 1+9=10, 2+8=10, 3+7=10, 4+6=10.

Chapter 3 Math Test will be next Tuesday.

Grammar-We will practice contractions with not, quotation marks, and end marks in sentences in class this week.

Santa’s Secret Shop-First grade may shop for Christmas gifts next Monday, December 3 from 11:30-12:20.

Reading/Spelling-There will be no new book this week, or spelling list. We will finish up what we were working on last week.

Monday after Thanksgiving is now going to be a school day used to make up for the snow day on Friday, November 16.

First Grade will be attending a Christmas party on December 12 at Bethlehem Catholic High School. Permission slips will come home after Thanksgiving.

Students are asked to donate a new, unwrapped toys to Catholic Charities, if possible.

Math-Worksheet. Study all the ways to add numbers with a sum of 10. Test on this set of facts will be next Friday.

Tuesday-Wear gym uniform for class on Wednesday. Bring a snack on Wednesday.

Math Facts-Please practice double facts with your child 6+6-12 through 10+10=20. Test on Friday. Use the “Doubles, Doubles” video on YouTube, and the web site Math Fact Cafe, grade 2 under doubles.

Thanksgiving Feast-Feast will be held on Tuesday, November 13 at 12:00. Bring a lunch, if not eating Thanksgiving dinner. Thank you for the donations and generous help for this event.

Dress Down Day-Comfy clothes (no pajamas) on Friday. The cost is $1.00.

Food Bank-Food for the food pantry is currently being collected. We have had some donations so far, Thank you for your donations.

Math Facts-Students need to memorize their double facts: 1+1=2 through 10+10=20. There are YouTube videos to help with this skill. We have been using

“Doubles, Doubles.” You may also help your child by using the web site Math Fact Cafe. Go to second grade, then doubles. I will be testing double facts sums to 10 on Friday, and double fact sums11-20 next week.

Fall Fest-Congratulations on the great turnout and enthusiasm for the event. Kudos to all the parents, students, and volunteers. It was amazing!

Spirit Day is Friday afternoon. Wear Spirit Wear or gym clothes.

Halloween Party-Party will be Wednesday after lunch. Please bring your costume in a bag. No weapons or hair color. Wear gym uniform. Thank you, families for the donated items.

Safe Environment-Students will have the first Protecting God’s Children lesson today.

Mass for All Saints will be November 1 at 9:00. First Friday Mass will be November 2 at 9:00. Parents are welcome to join us.

Show and Share-We will begin a Show and Share project this week. Please help your child choose an item to write about, tell about, and bring. This will be a graded assignment. Schedule will come home early this week.
