News and Notes 6-3-19

Pencils and erasers-Please ask your child if new pencils or erasers are needed.

First Friday Mass at 9:00-First grade will be reading and participating. Parents are welcome to attend. Wear regular uniforms for Mass.

Field trip to DaVinci Center is Thursday. Chaperones meet on the porch at

approximately 9:00. We start at DaVinci at 10:00. Bring lunch/drink and money for the gift shop. Wear gym uniforms.

Swimming-This Friday is the last swim class. Many thanks to the volunteers for their time and effort. Wear regular uniform due to Mass. This is also Parent Observation Day. Meet at the Y at 1:30.

Reading/Spelling-There will be no homework or new spelling words this week. We are concentrating on our last writing project in class.

Hooded sweatshirts and one regular sweatshirt-Many items, have been left in the classroom. Please let me know if one of these is your child’s.

Final Tests and Assessments

Final Tests-Religion final test review was sent home last week. Please review the circled and highlighted items for test on Friday.

English Language Arts Final test will be given on Thursday. Students will review in class.

Math Performance Assessment will be given on Friday. No preparation is needed for this.

Reading-No book or story will be assigned this week.

First Friday Mass for June 7-Readings have been given out. Please help your child practice for next week.

Field Trip-Please send in field trip permission slips and fees by Tuesday. I have to give the money to Mr. Fraser before he goes on vacation for the holiday weekend.

Challenge Words: your, you’re, you’ve. There will be no test this week. These words will be used for both this week and next due to the holiday.

Field Day-Will be held this Thursday. Wear gym uniform, sunblock, bring a water bottle, and a towel for afternoon water activities.

Final Tests and Performance Assessments-First grade will have a Language Arts final test, Religion final test and performance assessment, as well as a Math performance assessment. We will review in class for the Language Arts final and for the Religion final test. The performance assessments cannot be practiced or reviewed. We will begin the Religion performance assessment this week by reading and acting out the story of Bartimeus and the Blind Man.

First Friday Mass-First grade will read for First Friday Mass on June 6. Students will be given readings or tasks by the end of this week.

Math Test on Chapter 10 will be on Wednesday.

Reading/Spelling-Review Dolch words, phrases and sentences for List 11. No other written work will be given.

Monday-Return field trip permission slip and fees by tomorrow.

Field Day and Swimming are on Friday. Wear gym clothes, wear sun block, bring swim bag, and a water bottle. First grade will do all regular field day activities in the morning, with swimming in the afternoon. Thank you to all the generous parent volunteers for helping with the program.

DaVinci Center

Field Trip

May 13, 2019

Dear Parents,

The first grade field trip to DaVinci Center in Allentown is scheduled for Thursday, June 6. We will leave school at approximately 9:15, and travel by Levy School Bus to DaVinci.

Students will attend a workshop called Sound Sensations at 10:00.

After the workshops, we will tour the museum in groups. We will eat lunch at our scheduled time (given by the Museum teachers), visit the

Museum shop, and leave by about 2:00-2:15 to arrive back at school for dismissal.

Students should wear gym uniforms for the trip. Students should bring lunches including a drink in a non-breakable container. Lunchboxes may be used, as our lunches will be stored together until it is time to eat.

Parent volunteers who have obtained clearances as full volunteers, or trip volunteers are welcome to attend. The cost for admission is $11.50 for students, and $9.50 for parent volunteers.

Please send in permission slips and payment by 5-23-19. Please return the bottom portion of this note, if you are volunteering to help chaperone.

Many thanks for all the treats and kindness for Teacher Appreciation Week. I am very grateful.

Mr. Prince will substitute for me today.

Spring Concert is tonight. Meet in the classroom at 6:15. Dress as asked by Mrs. Pieninck. There will be no homework tonight.

Swimming continues on Friday. Bring swim bag and wear gym clothes.

BOGO Book Fair all week. Monday is our day to visit.

Reading/Spelling-Reading Street Group-Please return level 4 book. Students will receive level 5 book to keep home until I ask for it to be returned.

Reading A-Z Groups will read Acadia National Park. We will continue to work on nouns, adjectives, and verbs.

Reading to Class Assignment went home last week. Please help your child practice for Listening and Speaking. Reading should be between 2-5 minutes.

First Friday Mass will be at 9:00 on May 3. Parents are welcome to join us.

Wear regular for Mass on Friday. No dress down passes may be used.

Swimming continues on Friday. Many thanks to the generous volunteer parents. Bring swim bag. Girls please wear hair pulled back, and braided if possible.

Religion Test-Test on Lent and Easter will be given on Thursday. Please help

your child study by practicing questions on the review sheet coming home by Tuesday.

Baptism-We are beginning to study Baptism. Please show your child pictures, videos, and special things from his or her Baptism at home. Please don’t send these precious things to school.

Reading-Students will read Henry and Mudge and Mrs. Hopper’s House, or Cy and Medusa. Students are practicing main idea and details, and reviewing

plurals and possessives.

Easter Bunny Bags-Students will make simple Easter Bunny bags on Wednesday. Contributions of the items listed below are welcome.

Jolly Ranchers, Tootsie Pops, Nerds, Hershey Kisses (silver wrapper only), Easter pencils, erasers, small toys like super balls. I am grateful for any help you can give, especially on such short notice.

First Friday Mass will be celebrated at 9:00 on Friday, April 5. Students will also attend Eucharistic Adoration before lunch. Please bring a Bible of prayer book for this time. Continue to remind students to be prayerful, quiet, and attentive.

Swimming Information was sent home last week. Please return forms and payment to the YMCA by 4/17. Thank you.
